Inside: All About Me lesson plans that are intentional and developmentally appropriate.
All About Me lessons are an interactive and personal way for kids to learn all about themselves… and let’s face it, preschoolers LOVE to talk and share about themselves!
At the preschool age, young children are very egocentric and tend to focus on their own wants and perspectives. Not to fret, this is completely normal and developmentally appropriate for this age group! As children grow older, they start to develop empathy and are able to see different points of view.
Teaching children to share their likes, dislikes, as well as their talents and struggles, helps other children see how we all are different yet unique in our own way. The intentional conversations we create with young children (learning about their ideas and experiences) help our youngest students build quality relationships and create a sense of belonging amongst each other.

All About Me theme lends itself to so many other themes too. Teaching preschoolers about emotions and feelings is so critical and is the perfect tie-in to any All About Me theme. Guiding children to see how their emotions can cause their faces to take on different expressions… and those expressions give us a clue about how another person is feeling.
One of our favorite ways to talk about emotions is with books and stories! Listening to a sympathetic story or character can really help when preschoolers are having trouble regulating their BIG feelings and emotions. Check out our favorite books on kindness, friendship books, and more of what we think are the best books for preschool.
Another fun tie-in is name recognition which is a perfect literacy connection. After all, names are pretty personal!
Here are some of our favorite name activities:
Family and Community
Depending on the age of your preschoolers, you may notice a difference in how you approach this theme. Younger preschoolers will typically want to talk predominantly about themselves. Spend this time discovering their favorite foods, learning about the things they love, talking about their immediate family, and of course favorite colors!
Older preschoolers on the other hand are full of ideas! They can’t wait to talk about all their family members, their community, and neighbors, as well as the basics like colors, foods, and toys. This is a great time to sing some animal songs about their favorite pets!
