April is such a beautiful month… the flowers start to bloom and nature seems to be so full of life. We are blessed with soothing rains and cool breezes. As for the old saying, “April showers bring May flowers”, those welcome rains are a sign of the beauty that awaits us! Such a great time of the year to get out with your preschoolers and experience the fun of puddles, bugs, and pretty flowers.

April Preschool Themes

As April brings our attention to nature, it provides us with the perfect opportunity to celebrate the Earth and how we can make it a more beautiful place to learn, play, and work. Many of the April themes revolve around nature and plants, including:

All About Me Theme

Children, much like adults, love to talk about themselves! Children can learn about their own features and attributes, as well as their community. Make it easy with done-for-you all about me lesson plans! This is an easy place to incorporate name recognition and activities, such as tactile name writing practice or this simple craft.

Bears & Teddy Bears Theme

Your kids will be bear-y excited about this theme! Jumpstart your bear theme by reading Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? and grab these themed activities to go along. Don’t forget to go on a Bear Hunt… your littles will LOVE it! Invite your preschoolers to bring in their own bears, well, a teddy bear that is! Enjoy a teddy bear picnic and sing rhyming songs like Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear. And don’t miss incorporating some fun bear facts!

Birds Theme

With spring upon us, a bird study is a great chance to learn about birds in your area! Help your preschoolers create a pine cone bird feeder and see what birds are already in your own backyard.

Bubbles Theme

Pop! Pop! It’s bubble time! Bubbles are so fun and engaging and preschoolers go crazy for them! It’s one of the more unique April preschool themes. Make a kitchen sink bubble explosion and get your littles excited about science! Need ideas for a bubble sensory table? Kids will love making a bubble mountain during sensory play or a bubbly vinegar and baking soda volcano!

Bugs and Insects Theme

This is one of the most popular preschool theme studies because children are SO fascinated by bugs and insects! Foster their curiosity and let them explore and observe bugs and consider creating a bug collection! Earth Day Theme

Earth day reminds us of how important it is to take care of our Earth. This special day offers us the opportunity to teach about nature, recycling, and taking care of our world. Easter Theme

Easter is such a fun holiday! It can be celebrated as a faith-based theme or as a non-religious holiday. Either way, it’s a holiday full of fun traditions! There are so many fun things to do with eggs… egg dyeing, egg tape art, Easter egg hunts, egg roll painting, and egg drip art just to name a few. Flowers Theme

Garden Theme

Mindfulness Theme

Learning how to be calmer, manage energy levels, and find relaxation is so helpful for preschoolers who are always managing big emotions. This is the perfect theme for introducing yoga, and the easiest way is with our FREE animal yoga pack!

What animals live in a pond? It’s quite a busy place with ducks, frogs and even lily pads! This is such a fun theme to learn about different habitats and animal traits. Blue Goose and 5 Little Ducks are awesome felt board stories to use with this preschool theme!

Rain Theme

Spring Theme

We sure love spring! Spring is so full of life, sunshine, flowers and baby animals. What a great time to make a suncatcher and sing some spring songs. Make a birdfeeder and enjoy spring crafts! Incorporate the season into your math center with spring ten frame counting mats. This theme may need more than one week but it is one you can’t pass up!
