This adorable bug game is a guest post from the incredibly talented, Elissa, over at Mrs. Jones’ Creation Station. She is sharing this wonderful idea and free printable with us since I just welcomed baby #3 into our family. I invite you to look around at her beautiful and inspiring work on her blog, Teachers Pay Teachers store, Instagram, and Facebook.

Bug Game for Preschoolers

Spring time is in full bloom here in Texas and the little ones are seeing flowers and bugs all around.  I am huge believer in thematic learning so we brought a little spring into the classroom to help us learn how to count syllables.  Thematic learning is a great way to get students engaged in the activities presented to them and this activity was another example of just that.

I provided each student with tweezers and placed the insects in some grass.  The students took turns picking an insect from the grass, counted the syllables in the word and placing the insect case.

The great thing about this activity is that it is simple and can be used to teach or reinforce a variety of skills such as, initial sound, ending sound, creating sentences, etc.

You can grab these cute critters {here} to use with your own little learners!  Enjoy!
