A preschool gingerbread theme is a must during the holidays, and these gingerbread man songs are the perfect addition! Use them during circle time, sing and chant them during transitions, or pull one out when you need to stall for a few minutes. Check them out below, then don’t miss the rest of our compilation of the best songs for kids!

We do a gingerbread theme every year in our classroom! We read some of our favorite gingerbread books, The Gingerbread Baby and The Gingerbread Man, and sing lots of the songs recommended here. This is also a great time to make some gingerbread slime!

If you need an entire gingerbread lesson plan, we highly recommend this one from Preschool Teacher 101.

To extend the gingerbread fun into your math center, grab a free copy of our printable gingerbread man ten frames! They’re great for working on one-to-one correspondence, subitizing, and other beginning number sense skills. Just fill out the form below and we’ll send them right over.

Gingerbread Man Songs for a Gingerbread Theme

We can’t wait to share our favorite gingerbread songs with you! We’ve broken them into two categories: gingerbread man songs that have actions or inspire movement, and gingerbread songs that are perfect for preschool.

The videos that go along with the songs are super sweet, but don’t sweat it if you don’t have a way to show them in your classroom. Just playing the audio is just as valuable – maybe even more so, as it promotes critical listening!

How to Stream Music in the Classroom or at Home

If you want to get songs without the ads from YouTube, there are a couple of simple solutions. You can click the songs directly from this post, and it should take away most of the ads. Screen it first to make sure it works for your needs.

If you are using just audio, I have Amazon Music Unlimited. It isn’t free, but well worth it for me because we use it each day between the classroom and home. If you would want to download more than 10 songs a month, it’s worth its weight in gold!

It’s compatible with your phone, electronic devices, Alexa, and computer. What’s great is that I can download the songs while I’m home on my phone using wifi with the Amazon Music app. Then the songs are always there on my phone, and I can play them in the classroom, the car, or anywhere else.

There is also a 2 million song music library with Amazon Prime. That’s how I started, but then I eventually switched to Amazon Music Unlimited because it has nearly every song.

Gingerbread Songs with Action and Movement

Gingerbread Man Dance and Freeze – Jack Hartmann

Jack Hartmann is a national treasure! This original gingerbread man song is sure to get your kids up and grooving. He instructs the kids to dance in many different styles, and be sure to listen for the freeze! You get bonus points if you demonstrate the cha-cha or the squirrel for your kids.

Gingerbread Men – Miss Nina

Our beloved Miss Nina brings us an action rhyme with a gingerbread theme. The motions are just with your arms, so it’s great for circle time or when the kids are lined up and you need to kill some time. Can your kids find the rhyming words?

Cookie Bakers of the Night – Laurie Berkner Band

Ok, you got me – this cookie song isn’t technically about gingerbread, but it’s a don’t miss! Sneak into the kitchen with Laurie and her friends as they bake cookies at nighttime. After you watch or listen to the song, see if your kids can come up with their own creative movements and join in to tell the story.

Mix and Stir and Pat in the Pan – Jbrary

This gingerbread man chant is demonstrated with a baby, but it would be great for preschool circle time, too! They can easily act out some of the words.

The Gingerbread Man – Jack Hartmann

Another fun gingerbread man song from Jack Hartmann with spoken verses and a repeating chorus that is sung. The kids can act out the action words like skipping, hopping, and swimming that happen during the verses. Then encourage your kids to run in place and sing along during the chorus!

Gingerbread Man Songs for Preschool

Gingerbread Man – The Learning Station

Sing along with the gingerbread man during his adventures. The original song starts with a chorus, which is the part of the song that repeats several times. For this song, it’s the “run, run, as fast as you can” part. Then there are a few verses where he meets the cast of characters, and stick around for the surprise happy ending!

Gingerbread Man – Andrew Queen & The Campfire Crew

This song is new to me, but has quickly become one of my favorite gingerbread man songs! It’s an original tune (meaning that the tune is not based on another existing song) and it’s very folksy and pleasant to listen to. They take you through the entire story of the gingerbread man.

The Gingerbread Man Story

Pancake Manor is a new artist for us and I’m a fan! It’s another song with spoken verses and a sung chorus that the kids can join. I’m also in love with all of the rhyming words used in this gingerbread song! Can your kids find them all?

5 Gingerbread Men – The Kiboomers

My favorite songs for preschool are those that have a catchy tune, aren’t overly silly, and teach a skill like math, literacy, or social/emotional growth. This one hits all the marks! It’s to the familiar tune of “5 Little Ducks” so kids can sing along right away and it helps kids count backward from 5.
