I have been waiting to do this Natural-Dye Liquid Watercolor recipe for months! We use liquid watercolor weekly, and it is one of my all-time favorite items to have around.

When my friend Asia, the writer of Fun at Home With Kids, told me that she had figured out how to make liquid watercolor with natural ingredients, I knew I had to try it. She mentioned that the recipe for natural dye liquid watercolor was coming out in her book, and I was on the edge of my seat waiting for it to finally be released. She asked me to be a part of her blogging book tour so I received this for free, but I would have bought it otherwise.

Her book is called 150+ Screen-Free Activities for Kids, and it is my “go to” reference guide for all recipes and creative ideas. It has a clear allergy guide, ideas for babies and older, and the activities and recipes offer extended ideas. Something that I adore about Asia is how thorough she is as well as safety-minded. I never have to second guess her ingredients and whether they should be used for children, and her recipes work on the first try, unless it’s a mistake on my part.

At the very end of this post is an awesome giveaway for some of my favorite items from the book, so be sure not to forget about that.

Kids Activities

Liquid watercolors are such a favorite among my own kiddos as well as my class, so I always love finding another way to make them. The recipe for this all natural liquid watercolor can be found on page 96, and it is all ingredients you have at the grocery store. You might even have them at home already. We are using cranberries here to make a shade of red.

Coffee filters are some of our favorite items to paint, and my daughter loved squirting the cranberry based liquid watercolor into them.

When we were all finished, this was the beautiful end result.

Not only do I love this recipe, but each and every activity and idea is inspiring and full of creativity. I told a good friend the other day that every preschool teacher should have this book (as well as parents of preschoolers). It is already my most used reference guide for our curriculum and sensory recipes. During nap time I find my kiddos digging around for it to look at the beautiful and detailed photographs. I don’t blame them — it’s pretty engaging for us all. Whether you’re looking for glow-in-the-dark playdough, foamy bubbles that last for an hour, homemade gel paints or more, this has it all and more!

If you are in need of a great gift idea for children or teachers, this DIY Sensory Kit is just the thing for you and includes the book!

This book is not only a great resource but also a hot commodity and has been selling out all around the globe! I would highly recommend ordering one sooner than later if it’s on your wish list!
