Summer Songs for Kids

We’ve picked out some of our absolute favorite summer songs for kids. We start with summer action songs that get everyone up and moving! The videos are great, or once the kids are familiar with the songs you can use just the audio to encourage listening and following directions.

Then we give you summer songs that are perfect for circle time. They’re interactive and catchy, but can be sung in a large group while seated and without getting too wild.

Then we end with fun summer songs for preschool! These are some that the younger crowd are sure to love – toddlers, too!

How to Stream Music in the Classroom or at Home

If you want to get songs without the ads from YouTube, there are a couple simple solutions. You can click the songs directly from this post, and it should take away most of the ads. Screen it first to make sure it works for your needs.

If you are using just audio, I have Amazon Music Unlimited. It isn’t free, but well worth it for me because we use it each day between the classroom and home. If you would want to download more than 10 songs a month, it’s worth its weight in gold!

It’s compatible with your phone, electronic devices, Alexa, and computer. What’s great is that I can download the songs while I’m home on my phone using wifi with the Amazon Music app. Then the songs are always there on my phone, and I can play them in the classroom, the car, or anywhere else.

There is also a 2 million song music library with Amazon Prime. That’s how I started, but then I eventually switched to Amazon Music Unlimited because it has nearly every song.

Summer Action and Dance Songs

The Goldfish by Laurie Berkner

We’ll never get tired of Laurie Berkner songs! This one is so fun for kids of all ages. Swim around and do all the things fish do – or don’t do!

Boom Chicka Boom Summer Dance Song by The Learning Station

Most kids are familiar with The Learning Station’s silly song ‘Boom Chika Boom.’ This one puts a fun summer spin on it as you follow along with summertime actions like blowing bubbles, hula hooping, and doggie paddling.

Have Fun This Summer! by Jack Hartmann

Jack Hartmann at his goofy finest! He leads you through a reggae melody of things you can do this summer, including actions and motions for each. It’s worth it just to see the hats!

Double Scoop by Koo Koo Kanga Roo

Koo Koo Kanga Roo’s songs are always a crowd-pleaser. Most kids are already familiar with how fun this group is, so they’ll waste no time jumping up to dance along!

Swimming Song by The Learning Station

The repetitive nature of this song makes it easy for kids to follow along and have a blast! I love how the words are included on the screen, so older kids can follow along and little ones can build literacy skills.

You can find more fun action songs from Laurie Berkner, The Learning Station, Koo Koo Kangaroo, and more in our lists of dance songs and movement and action songs.

Summer Songs for Circle Time

And the Green Grass Grew by Super Simple Songs

I loved this song so much when I was little! This might be the most adorable version ever. The bulk of the song is call and response, which helps your kids sing along right away! Then see if they can keep up as the choruses get longer.

Bubble, Bubble, Pop! and The Fish in the Sea by Jbrary

Jbrary always has a treasure trove of circle time and storytime songs! Here are two amazing circle time songs that are perfect summer songs for preschool or kindergarten. The first practices colors and numbers and would be great with a felt board. The second is short, set to a familiar tune, and has simple motions with a scarf, all of which will keep your kids engaged!

Bubble Song by Sing Along with Lindsay

This bubble song is short and sweet and perfect for circle time. It’s to the tune of “If You’re Happy and You Know It,” which helps kids sing along right away because they already know the melody! Don’t forget to have a special helper blow some bubbles while you sing.

Going on a Bear Hunt by Dr. Jean

Summertime is the perfect time to go on a bear hunt! Join Dr. Jean in her creative take on the classic preschool chant. Instead of traveling through a river, field, and forest, she takes you through a candy factory, a jell-o swamp, and more! Standing up and following her actions makes it a great movement song, too.

Summer Songs for Preschool

Down by the Bay by Raffi

This song is a must-have when it comes to summer songs for preschool. It’s super easy to learn and includes some very important literacy skills like rhyming. We also included this classic in our list of rhyming songs.

Summer Song for Kids by The Singing Walrus

A funky summer song that kids love! It includes eight common summer activities. A great extension is to learn and include the ASL signs for each of the activities!

Pineapple Watermelon Mango by Alina Celeste

Sometimes the simplest songs are the best! This is a really fun chant about summer fruits that kids will love. Warning – it will get stuck in your head!

Butterfly by Nancy Kopman

This is a sweet song about watching a butterfly dance with a folk feel to it. There are beautiful videos of butterflies fluttering around too. For kids who love to whistle, there’s a great part in the song with just whistling. Nancy Kopman gets bonus points for whistling in harmony!

It’s a Beautiful Day by The Singing Walrus

The Singing Walrus hits another home run! Here’s a very sweet preschool summer song about a beautiful day when the sun is shining. It would be great as a transition song into a calm activity.

I’m a Fish! by Patty Shukla

This swimming song is super fun and even a great one to add motions to! Patty Shukla even gives some actual swimming instruction in a clever and memorable way.

Bluebird, Bluebird Through My Window by Sing Along with Lindsay

This is a calm and sweet version of the classic song. The song starts at about a minute into the video and is so soothing. This version even adds other colors of birds which is a perfect way to continue the song and add some variation and even working on colors.

I hope you’ve loved this list of summer songs for kids! For more great seasonal songs, don’t miss our spring songs, fall songs, and winter songs.
