Our classroom looks bare after taking down all of our Christmas decorations, so we wanted to fill our walls with some color and make our room festive again. Since Valentine’s Day is just a few weeks away, we created this cute and colorful puppy love preschool heart craft.Puppy Love Preschool Heart Craft to Make this Valentine's Day

How To Make A Puppy Love Preschool Heart Craft

This heart-shaped dog is easy for preschoolers to make and the perfect decoration for Valentine’s Day.

Supplies:

  • Red Construction Paper
  • Pink Construction Paper
  • Purple Construction Paper
  • Black Marker
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Googly Eyes

Puppy love preschool heart craft supplies

This adorable Valentine’s Day craft is simple and inexpensive to create. If you don’t already have all the supplies in your classroom, you can usually find everything you need at the Dollar Store.

Directions:

To begin making this puppy craft, your students will draw a large heart on a piece of red construction paper. I teach my students how to fold the paper in half and draw half of the heart so both sides of the shape are the same size. This is also the perfect time to introduce little learners to symmetry.

After cutting the red heart out, they will then draw another large heart on the pink construction paper and cut it out. They will then cut the heart in half.

Next, your students will glue one half of the heart on each side of the red heart for the puppy’s ears.

Then, they will cut a small heart out of the purple construction paper and glue it in the center of the red heart for the puppy’s nose.

After gluing on the nose, your students will use the black marker to draw a line from the bottom of the nose to the point of the heart. They will then draw a line along the bottom of the heart to create an arrow for the puppy’s mouth.

Finally, they will glue two googly eyes on above the nose.

This preschool heart craft is not only a cute and colorful decoration but it’s also a fun way for your students to develop their fine motor skills as they learn about hearts, symmetry, and Valentine’s Day.

Awww, I love that idea of making it for her birthday card. That sounds similar to some of the things my mom did for me growing up, and they were so special!
